One of the most versatile and cost-effective materials for use in landscaping is pea gravel. Everglades tan pea gravel consists of small, naturally rounded smooth stones varying in sizes from 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch and available in a range of natural colors, which will complement any décor. Tan pea gravel is good for many applications including use in gardens and pond bedding and it is particularly useful for cov🔴ering paths and driveways and for filling spaces between stone pavers.
Tan pea gravel is often used as a mulching product for landscape features. This is an inorganic mulch product that is functional while also being st💙ylish. When compared to organic mulches such as our brown mulch, tan pea gravel is relatively more expensive, however tan pea gravel does not decompose or require replenishment every year. Additionally, tan pea gravel is not as susceptible to being washed away by rainfall or being carried away by the rain. To this end, it is vital to use an edging material that will prevent the tan pea gravel from getting displaced by foot traffic and other movements. Over time, tan pea gravel may begin to lose its attractive coloration, but a good wash will have your landscape looking good as new. Customers that prefer to have control over what enters their landscape favor using inorganic mulches because they do not add any nutrients or chemicals to your soil.
A properly applied layer of gravel at a depth of 3 to 4 inches has many benefits to the health and longevity of a landscape feature. Tan pea gravel blocks sunlight while being a poor conductor of heat, thus reducing the amount of water loss due to sunlight, saving you money on your water bill. The gap created by the layer of tan pea gravel between sunlight and the surface of your topsoil also helps inhibit the growth of weeds. A layer of tan pea gravel that is too thin or too thick can cause several issues. If the layer is too thin it will not be an effective method to control weed growth. Additionally, during the hot summer months in Florida, the combination of intense s෴unlight and high radiant heat will begin to essentially cook the rock and, in turn, tan pea gravel will inevitably heat up your topsoil and accelerate the evaporation process. In certain cases, maintaining a dry layer of topsoil at the base of your plants may be ideal, like in the case of foxglove. Too thick of a layer can retain too much water and create a consistently saturated environment that can cause pathogens to spread and cause root rot.
At Everglades, tan pea gravel is available in 1/2 cu. ft. bags. Buying in bagged quantities is great for when you need smaller quantities,🔯 or when the ease of carrying bags to the desired location is a factor. This product is available for pick up in-store and is located outside in the yard. Samples can be found near the counter indoors. Everglades also offers delivery right to your driveway or any other load-bearing surface in order to prevent damage any undergroun🐓d pipes or septic tanks.
